Why did President Bush believe it was ok to double the National Debt but veto the children's health bill

Why did President Bush believe it was ok to double the National Debt but veto the children's health bill?
Does he think four trillion dollars of added National Debt doesn't matter unless it's for little sick children? What does this show about Republican priorities?

Stunning contrast in priorities isn't it?

Misleading. The children's health bill, Schip, was created by republicans a decade ago. The democrats want to change it so that it covers children who's families make over six figure incomes. That defies common sense, if their family makes that much, they should buy their own health insurance.

Hopefully, we are seeing the return to fiscal responsibility. The debt is a travesty, but vetoing a SCHIP expansion bill that did not mandate the coverage of 90% of poor children before covering middle class children was the right move. Its about POOR children, remember?

Call him and ask him.

It shows me he has his head up his butt. He doesn't make any money from childrens healthcare, but he does from war.

How do they call themselves compassionate conservatives.

"little sick children".... Yeah, all the way out to age 25, not to mention adding to the public rolls, families that make a fair amount of money. He veto'ed it because it's still a bad bill.

spending bills originate in congress. He will not sign a bill that expands healthcare to children whose parents are making about $80,000 per year. Pay attention and do not drink the Kool Aid so easily.

He borrow's off the banks, grandpappy Bush was a Nazi money launderer and a banker. See the connection ?

Ricky T. Thank you for an answer that puts it straight. These people have no idea of history - they only see the here and now.

Of course because constitutionally War is the governments duty while social services are not. Where are your priorities? Are they with the constitution or against?

Ricky T. is right on. That's precisely the problem. The President has asked for the bill to be rewritten and resubmitted to him, and it probably will be. But pay attention to all the details when it is.

No profit for his cronies in the children's health bill. How will we ever pay for the trillions in war debt without healthy children to pay the bill?

To answer your question, How much money did any child who can't afford health care contribute to a Republican Politician?? How come those children don't hire Washington lobbyists to push their agenda of access medical treatment like all big corporations do to push their agendas?? Let those children put their money where their mouth is, if you want Republican Government on your side, you pay for it like everyone else!! Its those childens own fault!! A lesson learned!! If they survive and grow up to become the .001% they can afford to have representative government if they pay for it.
