How will the Health Care Reform bill affect coverage for people who have mental health issues

How will the Health Care Reform bill affect coverage for people who have mental health issues?
I have a child with a mood disorder, and I'm concerned whether he will have the ability to obtain treatment if employers decide not to offer mental health as part of their employees' health insurance package.

It should protect them. In the future, insurance plans will not be able to discriminate against pre-existing conditions and that would apply to insurance companies as well.

Making them aware they are are FAT (they need to be told they are FAT) & are not doing themselves any favours by remaining that way. They will also need the motivation to change, both in their eating habits & activity levels.

My husband doesn't want anymore children. How do I tell him I'm pregnant with our third child

My husband doesn't want anymore children. How do I tell him I'm pregnant with our third child?
I've had two c-sections and have endometriosis. So he had decided he didnt want to risk my health or a child's health for us to have another. i just found out that I'm pregnant again and don't know how to break it to him. Help

be happy about it, if your happy- then he should be happy!!
2 :
You say "this is it" then I'm getting my tubes tied
3 :
If he is not taken precautions to avoid pregnancy he should not be to suprised!!! just tell him right away. good luck with your pregnancy.
4 :
Tell him I understand your concerns and don't want to stress you out, I didn't know how to break it to you so I am just going to come out and say it. I am pregnant. And tell him I really need your support right now. Good luck I am sure it will work out fine!!!!
5 :
Hes your hubby, you just have to flat out tell him. Not like he has any room to blame you!!! Its not your fault. Time to live with that. He will come around and love this new one just as much as the others :)
6 :
Say "Baby, I'm pregnant. I know how you feel about it and want to figure this out together." Then hear him out, explain your feelings, and reach a conclusion together.
7 :
Been there! It's scary because you want him to be happy about it. It also sounds like he loves you very much and is concerned for your health. Tell him as soon as possible. Then involve him as much as possible. Had we not had him, life would be so boring, and we have 6 all together! I'll be praying for all of you. Good luck
8 :
Pray, ask the Lord to work it out and it will go smoothly with your husband. Apparently God needs that little soul in the earth for a reason.
9 :
Okay that a hard question to answer. I can understand him not wanting to risk your health or the childs health with another conception and c-section. Here is my concern though, having the knowledge that you have endemetriosis, and having to live with that and the pain that can come with it, why RISK getting pregnant? Were you guys using protection? or birth control? All you can do is be upfront and honest with him. Tell him that you understand his concern for your well being and a childs as well. Just let him know, Its a hard question hun...
10 :
Just try telling him straight. Just bring it up. It is not going to be easy so just get it done. Or you can try at the dinner table. Start with can you pass the potatoes and by the way I am pregnant. Good Luck and Best Wishes with the new one.
11 :
hi well you should be happy i am sure he will be to it's a baby .ok heres what to do and trust me i know what i am talking about tack him some where alone and light a few candeales sorry if my spelling is off but light a few candeales and make sure everything is right and tell him you love him and make him happy in nice sweet ways that he likes that only you know if you have to make every thing best like plain a good time to tell him let him know your happy not sad or anything i am sure it will be fine trust me do what i told you things like that work a lot hope it all works out good luck and by the way congratulations about your baby.
12 :
just tell him. he will be there with you through everything.
13 :
wait till hes in a calm mood and just tell him
14 :
Just tell him--it's not something you did by yourself, you know. He's as much to blame as you so he can't get mad.

Why do some opponents of health reform keep repeating the following untrue statements

Why do some opponents of health reform keep repeating the following untrue statements?
They claim that starting next year, you're going to have to start paying taxes on your health benefits - No you won't. They claim that Congress is exempt from the health reforms. No they're not. The same rules apply to them as apply to anyone else. They claim that all pre-existing conditions are the result of a lifestyle choice. Tell that to the child who develops Juvenile Arthritis, or the person who is told they have Multiple Sclerosis, or the mother of a child with Leukemia. Are you that short on truths that you have to resort to lies?

http://insurancenewsnet.com/article.aspx?id=191538&type=lifehealth A tax will be imposed on employers on Cadillac insurance plans in 2018. 40%. It is estimated that health insurance for a family of 4 will cost $28,000 by 2018. This cost will undoubtedly be passed on to the employee or the employee will have to buy health insurance elsewhere. I have heard that people who smoke or are obese will pay more for insurance. It would be really special if the democrats would actually, honestly, do a bullet point on what is actually in the bill but they love the controversy and the fact that employers are at a standstill because they don't know how this will effect them. All they say are generalities like 32 million more will be covered, we will squeeze every dime on medicare, etc. They don't want to tell you your state taxes are going to go through the roof becausse 16 million are going to be added to medicaid. They don't tell you that rather than driving down the cost of health care, they are driving it up. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/us_health_care_premiums Look what is happening already. This is not going to be good for anybody.

How do I go about adoptiong a dwarf child

How do I go about adoptiong a dwarf child?
My husband and I are looking into adoption. We have been married for just over 2 years and are both in our mid twenties. For the past year we have been talking about adoption because my husband was adopted and wants to help a child. As a nurse, I have worked with many dwarf children, many of whom are living with foster parents. After looking into risks and health issues, my husband has agreed that we will be able to handle a dwarf child. Does anyone know any organizations that specialize in dwarf child adoption? Has anyone gone through any agencies?

I believe the correct term is "Little people." You might get that right before adopting.
2 :
That's awesome! I can try to look up some agencies for you! i know a lot of people at the LPA who were adopted and I can talk to their parents. I'm a little person, and the correct term is dwarf. But little person is easier.
3 :
There is this awesome all christian agency that is REALLY super cool! It is called America World Adoption Agency. My family adopted one beautiful girl from china through them, and we are completely satisfied! We are actually in the process of adopting another! This agency not only lets you adopt from several countries, but also has a special needs list. Being a dwarf would fall into this category. Some other special needs include: elbino, down syndrome, blind, deaf, clef lip and palate, and minor heart problems. There are also other agincies that you could go through. The thing I like about AWAA is that its an all Christian agency, but who knows what your religion is????! Hope this helped!!!!

Does having old asbestos tile that's peeling in an older home cause harm or health problems

Does having old asbestos tile that's peeling in an older home cause harm or health problems ?
My family and I moved into a forclosed home and there's old asbestos tiles that's peeling of the floor. Will this cause any health problems to my family especially my child?
Respiratory Diseases - 3 Answers
Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
yes it does. Besides causing difficulty in breathing, it may also lead to silicosis. And yes, small children are very susceptible to it. The condition may not only lead to asthma & bronchitis, it may cause irritation in the skin & eczema as well. I'd suggest you to get rid of the asbestos, and get a new flooring done, if possible.
2 :
If it is asbestos (make sure by testing it at a lab) then the answer is that it could cause health problems down the line. They would not be immediate and the likelihood is hard to measure or determine. You can only have the material professionally removed. Do not try it yourself as that may create a bigger problem.
3 :
If the tiles are asbestos and they are damaged (friable) then asbestos fibres will be airborne from these and these can be inhaled into your lungs. The tiles should be removed by an asbestos abatement company and not by yourself as this will cause them to omit more fibres. Asbestos materials are a definate health hazard particularly when they are damaged. Please ensure that you have these checked out professionally and don't ignore them as a potential health hazard.

There are many, many health benefits from being vegetarian! It has been proven that vegetarians/vegans who have a balanced diet DO live much longer than the average American omnivore. For vegans, the cholesterol level goes WAY down (for vegetarians, too!). It also lowers your risk for certain diseases such as cancer, since you're not consuming as many growth-hormones from animal and animal fats. And overall, it forces you to be more health-conscious about the foods you chose to eat. Before, when I ate meat, I ate any food without thinking about where it came from or what was in it. Now I'm much more concerned about my diet and I avoid processed foods more often. It really does change your lifestyle and pushes you in a healthier direction. :)

How do I keep child support a secret from wife

How do I keep child support a secret from wife?
I had a affair behind my wife's back. My ex-mistress has filed for child support and medical support (1 year old son will be on my health insurance). Paternity test came back positive. Is there any way to keep the child support and medical support a secret from my wife? I'm not ready to tell her yet!
Marriage & Divorce - 10 Answers

Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
I'd be more concerned about the settlement from your impending divorce.
2 :
keeping it a secret will just delay an ugly scene and make it even uglier when she does find out. time to face the music. man up and tell her.
3 :
You have to man up and tell your wife.
4 :
Unless she sees your check stubs, there's no way she would know you were paying support. You may have to explain a sudden decrease in your take-home pay, however. And the medical insurance probably won't be an issue, either. It isn't like they will call her up and tell her about it. Obviously you should be honest with your wife, blah blah blah, you know that. But in answer to your question, it isn't easy but it is possible.
5 :
The child's name will be on your insurance card and online when you pull up insurance info. Plus, the CS people will mail many things to your home. You really need to tell.
6 :
i do not think keeping this a secret is a good thing for you or anyone. just give her medical insurance card no big deal there and see if you can both settle this as adults go to the child support web site to see what you will have to pay and give it to her on your own nothing good ever comes from the court they dont care about you or her just moving a case
7 :
You may not be ready to tell your wife but you have no other choice but tell her now. It's going to be worst for you if you keep this from her because eventually she will find out. You lied to your wife when you cheated behind her back. You didn't tell her the truth about your son. And now you want to keep the child support a secret. How long do you plan to go behind your wife̢۪s back and pretend that everything is okay? How long do you plan to keep all those secrets from her? Your wife has a right to know everything. She is probably thinking that you have a great marriage but behind her back you cheated on her and had a child with another woman. I'm sorry but I cannot help you with this because I honestly believe that keeping this from your wife is wrong. You need to tell your wife the truth. You may not be ready yet to tell her but she will never be ready to accept what you did behind her back. She may have forgiven you for cheating but to have a baby with another woman is going to destroy her world. But I imagine you weren̢۪t thinking about your wife when you were having an affair behind her back.
8 :
you might be keeping a divorce secret later. be honest!
9 :
Wives are not stupid. She already knows you had an affair, and when she notices the money not coming in like it used to, she's going to add one plus one. A better question would be "how do I tell my wife I fathered a child outside of marriage?" The sooner you do it, the easier it will be. Not that it will be easy, but hey - you should have thought of that sooner, pig.
10 :
its not going to work. they send you monthly statements. its going to be on your health insurance. you might have to go to court. Fess up and maybe somehow your marriage can be saved. I'm just afraid by you trying to hide it - you might end up paying more child support and for longer(through college) because you don't want to deal with it. you might need a lawyer to make sure you are paying the right amount. time to fess up what you did....

So how do I go about getting health insurance? I'm 19 years old, (I know too young to have a child and so forth, but please, I just need to know about the health insurance) Thanks in advance. First of, health insurance isn't going to cover your pregnancy if you are already pregnant when you get the insurance. Since you only work part time, your best option is to go to your counties health & human services department and get on state assistance. If you are pregnant, you should qualify for help.

What kind of health problems come from black mold

What kind of health problems come from black mold?
We have black mold in our apartment and my child has been very sick this year, does anyone know what kind of health problems are related to black mold?
Respiratory Diseases - 2 Answers

Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
I believe it will affect the respiratory system. I hope you've insisted the landlord repair whatever is "infected" with the mold. It has to be removed, and you can't be there when the demolition of those areas happen as it'll get in the air even more. You may want to contact the health department. They may be able to offer advice on your rights as a renter. If they can't I'd bet they can get you in touch with who can.
2 :
Beware of the black mold. It does cause one's immune system to deteriorate rapidly. It happened to me last year. This is my story: Last year, I felt ill and had a persistent cough. But the phlegm was not stained or colored. This went on for two months and the doctor told me she was a little worried even though she said my lungs were clear from listening through the stethoscope. A chest x-ray of my lungs did not turn up anything abnormal. Then all of a sudden, my throat went sore for a month and I kept getting a fever frequently. Antibiotics were prescribed . I recovered while I was on antibiotics. But once I finished the course, I will come down with a fever a few days later. I was at wits end and the doctor told me to see an ENT specialist. I told the specialist I was sick for 5 months with on and off fever and sore throat. The first thing he asked me was if there is black mold where I work and I said yes. He immediately told me that I have to move to a place where there is no black mold because the building where I worked is a sick building. The mold I breathed in caused my immune system to deteriorate and unable to fend off any infection. Those strong doses of antibiotics caused my system to be too dependent on them to fight an infection. The sore throat which have plagued me for months is thrush because all the good bacteria in my throat were destroyed by the strong antibiotics. I subsequently requested my boss to put me in an environment where there is no mold so that I can recuperate. The ENT specialist taught me to irrigate my sinuses regularly so that in the event that I breathe in any mold, they are flushed out before they can cause any damage to my immune system. Since I started nasal irrigation, I have not fallen ill once and feel strong and healthy without taking any more meds. I have no more coughs and never suffered from the common cold nor the influenza. I would recommend you to read the following resources: 1. Nasal irrigation http://www.sinusinfectionhelp.com/nasal_irrigation.html http://www.sinusinfectionhelp.com/neti_pot.html Nasal irrigation is especially useful when someone in the family has a cold and you do not wish to get infection. Irrigate your sinuses regularly so that the viruses or bacteria in your sinuses never have the chance to multiply and proliferate thereby causing an infection. I would suggest you get rid of the black mold immediately by getting in the experts. There are also indoor air purifiers which can help remove mold spores released into the air. http://www.sinusinfectionhelp.com/air_purifiers.html Hope this helps. Cheers!

How can I get the local Health Dept. to make a couple clean up the kitchen trash and sewage from their yard

How can I get the local Health Dept. to make a couple clean up the kitchen trash and sewage from their yard?
I have turned these people in to the local health dept. twice and still am gettting no results. My child is living there with my ex-husband of 10 years and I'm afraid he will get sick.

1 :
if the health department wont do anything, call child services and file a complaint with them. if they follow up with a home visit they might just let you take your child. also what are your cities bylaws about trash in yards? if you get enough people to complain they will have to clean it up or the city will send a crew. if they rent their house call their landlord and complain about the eyesore they have created. good luck.
2 :
Very simple call them again and tell them there are RATS all over the place. and this is a health hazard, tell them if they do something about it you will inform the BBC TV NEWS department . You´ll see how fast they come and do the job. would´t be nice if the health department received a bad reputation . Also call the local council & tell them the same thing
3 :
Sounds more like your mad at your ex. But if that is not the case it is not the job of the local health dept to enforce local trash policies. Contact your city workers i.e. Mayor, alderman who ever is in charge.
4 :
You should see my neighbors home. You can't get in the kitchen door and the rest of the place looks like a sump. Calling the Health Dept doesn't work so try Children's Social Service. That's what we had to do.

Are there any health benefits for women who have not borne children

Are there any health benefits for women who have not borne children?
I am 40. Two older women at work were sharing hysterectomy stories with me. Both had had two children, both had been found to have a "dead" ovary and extensive uterine fibroids, both had been age 48 at the time of surgery. It made me wonder if my decision to remain childless (one terminated pregnancy before the 3rd month) would affect my health in any beneficial way. I have been on birth control pills since age 18.
Women's Health - 2 Answers

Random Answers, Critics, Comments, Opinions :
1 :
Not really. Your body is designed to have children, and you'd probably be healthier if you'd given birth at least once. The idea of pregnancy and/or breast feeding destroying a woman's body is a myth. Many children can hurt a woman's health, yes, but a woman who's had one child is usually going to be healthier than one with no children.
2 :
Congratulations on being child free. My girlfriend is 38, and I am 42. We are both 100% child free. I don't think there is much difference in your feminine health. Some men claim that their wife does not "feel" the same on the inside of her xxxx once she had given birth. I have dated both mothers and child free. I never noted anything different that could not be attributed to being a different person. I have noted that most child free people look younger. We are often mistaken for a couple in our 20's. But that is just about the only difference. My brother is younger than I am, and does not go out in the sun as much, but looks much older than I am because he has stepchildren.

Is it ethical to restrict human reproduction for the sake of environmental health

Is it ethical to restrict human reproduction for the sake of environmental health?
I'm interested in Religious, human rights and ethical perspectives. Put your self in the same situation as Chinese families are in, with the one child policy, but this time for you it's for the health of the environment. Sustainability of natural resources and waste issues.

No it isn't. Where would all this stop?
2 :
there is 350 million dollars in obamas "stimulus" plan to pay for abortions. when asked about this speaker of the house nancy pelosi said fewer people would stimulate the economy.what a great government.
3 :
quite clearly, we will come to that. we're not there yet, either by #s, or ethics. but we will -- it's only a matter of time. that is, assuming that a war doesn't do the job for us.
4 :
My thoughts are that to save this planet.....we are going to have to restrict the number of children each family can have. Go on to the US census site and watch the population counter and then you tell me how long our planet will support this growth......
5 :
I don't mind a little encouragement via education, access to birth control, or cutting programs that encourage or reinforce family size. I may even support some kick back programs aimed at reducing birth rates. I'm not in favor of any means of actual force to control birth rates (whether aimed at raising or lowering) though.
6 :
I 100% think we should limit the amount of children people are allowed to have. I wouldn't even go as far as to only have one kid, I think two would be just fine. Then you are maintaining the population (with a gentle decline due to death rate) and you don't end up with the "little Princes" issues of the Chinese policy. I can't think of one issue that we face today that would not be improved by fewer people on this earth, period. Education, crime, the environment, everything. Whenever I see people having eight or nine kids, I cringe inwardly and always have to stop myself from asking who is going to pay for their college education (well, not usually anyone, which is a shame). This is all very unrealistic, since the people who have the multiple children don't really see it from a resources perspective. It is quality, not quantity we need in our kids. The resources we have are limited. Place more resources with fewer kids and everyone wins.
7 :
Is breeding a right? Look at it from the child's perspective. Doesn't a new born child have rights? Doesn't a child deserve to be born to a responsible family who has sense enough to prepare financially beforehand? If breeding is a right then how can we morally get our pets fixed?
8 :
In the study of population dynamics there are three recognised factor that control population size Famine Disease Predation (War and crime are the human equivalents) If we do not find some equitable political solution to the exponential rise in the human population, these natural factor will do it for us.
9 :
Unfortunately, our economy is predicated on a growing population to pay for things such as social security (and all the pet projects that congress raids the social security fund to pay for). Thus, we have a tax structure that makes it easier to take advantage of the rest of the people by having large families. If income tax stopped giving exemptions for children when the couple reached two (by natural childbirth, as opposed to adoption), it could get more orphans adopted and dissuade people from breeding indiscriminately. When you already have six children and get eight more implanted, I see this as an egregious abuse of the system.
10 :
I think the question should be is it ethical not to? Is it right to bring 10 kids into a world of poverty and pain with no hope for anything ever getting better, or should one kid be brought into the world with comforts, health and a good life ahead of them?
11 :
Unfortunately it is the concerned humans who are willing to have smaller families, and the people who do not care a twit about the environment are the ones who over populate with lots of kids. Go figure.
12 :
yes this is right. When you go there and see how economy is crumbling because of it. You will see the reason.

If you qualify for Medicaid it would be health insurance. Just go fill out the paperwork.
2 :
Let me see if I interpreted right... You were ordered to pay support, and you were ordered to get health insurance for the child. You are asking if you can get medicaid as your insurance for the child??? If that is the question, the answer is no. In order for you to sign the child up for medicaid the child has to live with you. The health insurance that you are required to get has to come through your employer as the non-residential parent.

Once they waste a bunch of time and fail to get the override votes, and get all done using children as a wedge to try to make the President look bad, maybe they will fund the SCHIP program. - EDIT: LOL back atcha' - I pay 500 a month for COBRA, and I don't want to pay for anyone else. -
2 :
Excuse me!! bush and doing a "right thing"!!!
3 :
You're not going to have "a disabled nation and it's citizens" just because some people don't have to pay ALL of some other people's bills.... YES, Bush did the RIGHT THING. There are more parents who are taxpayers than there are parents who participate in this program. The money saved, we can spend on OUR children. So, he vetoed the bill "for the children." So there - PAY YOUR OWN STINKING BILLS! Please see my "about me" section, and see my questions about this issue and about why the government should provide me with free single malt scotch. Hey, I don't "have" any - and some people do "have" some - that's not "fair" - the government should provide me with a bottle of Oban - I demand it in the name of fairness! I have kids! A free Oban program would be "for the children!"
4 :
Yes I do. We really need to make sure the poor that the original bill was intended to help are taken care of before allowing children from upper middle class families to take part.........
5 :
Well why not provide a place to live , all the food to eat , cloths, and a car........ Like Hitler used to say , " You must be healthy for the good of the Reich"!!
6 :
Yes. He did exactly the right thing. The bill would have provided coverage for children in families making $80,000 a year. This is bad politically for Bush(because most people only hear "Bush doesn't like children") but it was absolutely the right thing to do. Once again, Bush stands on principle and what is right for the country NOT what sounds good.
7 :
For the hundredth time today; it was a terrible bill. Try reading up on it and then explain how a child whose family income is 80k is in any way impoverished, or how a 25 year old adult is a "child". Stop being so naive. It's that lack of education on your part (not understanding the nature of the legislation) that leads to Americans being over taxed and contributes to economic decline. Wake up and thank God you have a President who indeed cares about the future of the country.
8 :
I don't believe, some of these responses!! SHEEP RALLY, going on here!! usual bush lovers! And, no, i don't believe bush does any thing right!

How can we concretely help the World : clean water, food, Health/spread of HIV/AIDS, child protection

How can we concretely help the World : clean water, food, Health/spread of HIV/AIDS, child protection...?
I think that everyone (especially developped countries) should have to go in a mission as an United Nations Volunteer (UNV) for 6 months min. So many people needs our knowledge and Help and inexorably money.Information, Education...And let's forget about any African debts...so ashamed of what we could do and that we don't so much...so much people careless and ignorant. Let's tell the World for once!

Sorry to say that even though I had the same feelings and volunteered for such a job in Kenya Africa. The NGO supported by UK funding wanted to pay stingy salary for such a job and I had no other option but to say QUITS
4 :
Developing nations do not lack volenteers. They lack stable governments free of coruption. Hugo Chavez for example is determined to run Venuzuala into oblivion. Saddam did a great job of destroying Iraq. Pinochet Argintinia, and so on. , The two party system is doing a great job of leading the US down the road to self destruction. In a similer question 5 major causes of poverty were established. 1. Corruption. 2 - domestic conflicts (i.e. coups, tribal wars that lasts for generations, domestic terrorism) 3 - lack of jobs and education 4 - natural disasters destroying infrastructures every year 5 - over population While any of the top 4 reasons persist no amount of money can help a nation. Nor can the entire worlds popluation descending on that nation to help give them signifcant lasting aid. #3 is a direct cause and effect of #1 in all nations except those completely lacking in natural resources. Still the Bahammass have managed to forge a strong economy despite a complete lack of resources. They did this by not having a corrupt Government. $5 can be overcome if the other 4 problems are solved. #5 will tend to solve itself anyway as education and affluence improve. Wealthy people are busy people and also are sometimes wealthy because they limit the number of children they have and start to have children later in life. Children are expensive and having children too early even in developed nations is often to bind yoruself into economic slavery. So a concrete method which will actually help the world is the foundation of groups who will promote Democracy and anti-corruption in the third world. That will circumvent media control in nations like Cuba for example to deliever the real news and aid to fight corrupt tyrannies like that found in such nations. Socialism itself is honey to corruption. The more power and influence a Gov has in peoples lives the more opportunity for coruption and the greater the effect corruption will have on people's everyday lives. It is a direct correlation. China has had to resort to the death penalty to attempt to fight corruption. It was corruption which brought the Soviet blcok down. A pervasive corruption that is weathering even a change to a free market economy. Democracy does not guarentee freedom. Only the vigilence of a nations people can guarentee it's own freedom. Once corruption is reduced and the Goverment is lifted off of the market. Then loans and volenteers can make a rapid and meaningfull contribution. You can give a person chained to a huge rock all the jogging gear, water, dietary suppliments and encouragement you want. You can give them books about running. You can teach them all about running but you cannot help them run while they are chained to the rock. Government is a rock. The bigger the Government the bigger the rock all the people in that nation are chained too. A small rock is an annoyance. A big rock is to block all progress and make the person dependent on the rock for it's dailly livelyhood. Government is not the only source of corruption. Culture too must be fought in some parts of the world. Concepts that link a man's machismo to the number of children they are able to sire is a cultural factor that directly contributes to world poverty. Birth control is taboo in some cultures as it defeats a man's ability to procreate, thus lowering that man's status in that culture. A strong work ethic is required to avoid poverty. People have to see real rewards for work or they will always do the bare minium to get by. If a culture creates a situation where hard work is not rewarded then hard work will not happen often. If a family that works hard to get ahead is held back by local Gov or extended family why would any family in that culture strive to succeed? So Corruption is more than a factor of Governent. It's also a factor of culture.

How does an adult child get power of attorney to care for a sick parent

How does an adult child get power of attorney to care for a sick parent?
Very recently my dad came to live with me and my family. Within this time he was diagnosed with having dementia, from observation he is getting worse as the days go by. To make it short; how do I go about getting power of attorney to handle his everyday affairs from health care, finance, and whatever else? (he is basically becoming a child again) I must add that I have his discharge papers from the hospital that states that he has this sickness. Also wanting to get advice on revoking his licenses ASAP. Any help would be welcomed.

You would need to contact an attorney and your father would need to sign a Power of Attorney document. Do this fast, because if your father's condition is going down hill every day, the longer you wait the harder it will be to achieve. In order for your father to sign ANY legal document, the lawyer and notary will need to be able to determine that he is of "reasonably sound mind" - meaning that he knows what he is signing and the impact it will have. Ask the attorney about the license thing as well. PS - don't take legal advice from strangers on YA. Go to a legal professional yourself and get real answers.
2 :
It depends if you father has drawn up a power of attorney. If he has, you need to contact the lawyer (preferably who drew it up since he is familiar with your dad) and ask him to start the proceeding to enact the power of attorney. A power of attorney is drawn up in case your father becomes disabled. In it he names the person he wants to care for him. Normally this is discussed beforehand but he may not have done this. If he has not drawn up a power of attorney, see a lawyer and ask him to start the proceedings to have you named the executor of a power of attorney. This means that you will have the legal responsibility to see that your dad is cared for. The hospital papers you have will be helpful but they may not be enough. Nonetheless your dad may protest and in that case having him evaluated by a geriatric psychiatrist will be of help. If he has not been evaluated by a geriatric psychiatrist, start that now because they may be a waiting list. This doctor will provide you with all the medical documentation as to where your dad is in his dementia, where he is going and also follow-up on his increasing loss of abilities. Whatever you do, get a good solid support team to care for your dad that includes a social worker, a general doctor, a psychiatrist, a nurse, and if needed, a physiotherapist to evaluate your home and make it safe. Good luck.
3 :
DUH try using a bit of common sense It is called Power of Attorney for a reason...You have to seek a lawyer that specializes in family law. (I'm thinking that your father isn't the only one who suffers from dementia)

Are there really women who choose late-term abortions because they simply don't want to have a child

Are there really women who choose late-term abortions because they simply don't want to have a child?
I ask this question in all honesty because I have heard that almost all late-term abortions are because of the health of the mother or child. Otherwise, why would anyone wait so long? I just wanted to know whether it ever happens because of an unwanted pregnancy. I guess I was asking more about the US.

There is a certain time limit they are allowed to have an abortion in, it's different in different countries I think. So no I don't think women can have late abortions.
2 :
where I live abortion is only allowed in the first trimester unless the mothers life is in danger.
3 :
Women can have an abortion un to 26 weeks i think in the Uk... most will have the abortion before 12 weeks as you will have had two Months with no period, so even if you are living in denial, it would be pretty obvious you were! The later into the pregnancy the harder it comes i suppose... i cannot imagine the docs saying no but you will get asked why you left it so late etc. Some women (my friend was one) didn't actually know she was pregnant until she was 18 weeks, she is quite a big girl and her periods remained regular, it was only when she got ill that she went to the docs. She had an abortion because she is not ready to be a Mum. Other people may wait because they are in denial. maybe they expect the 'baby' to bring them closer to their partner and as the pregnancy goes on they realise they are wrong... they may be scared to tell anyone... they may have been raped.. they may simply have changed their mind all of a sudden?? there are a hundred and one different reasons why a women has an abortion, and so the simple answer is whenever it happens it happens. Everyone is different x

murdering whores
5 :
I doubt it.
6 :
Unfortunately yes...I used to have a friend who had an abortion at like 19weeks and told everyone she had a miscarriage. It was awful everyone felt sorry for her when she killed her baby. Its sickening to me that people don't see how awful that is.

At what age should a child start seeing a Pediatrician? I know a lady whose kid is 3 and never sees one.

At what age should a child start seeing a Pediatrician? I know a lady whose kid is 3 and never sees one.?
The child isn't neglected per say, but always seems to be sick. I just feel that the child would stay in much better health if the mother of the child would put forth the effort to get her child a regular Pediatrician that could help oversee the child's general health issues. Instead, the mother relies on the ER every time her child is sick. While the ER is good, they do not specialize in Pediatric care. Am I being paranoid or shouldn't a child at the age of 3 have a regular Pediatrician for their care and wellbeing?

Your child should see a pediatrician from birth. Usually, they go for checkups pretty routinely, from 3 weeks old on. There's vaccinations that they should be given also. Going to the emergency room every time a child is sick is like shutting the barn door once the horse is out. Prevention for anything is best. She should get a pediatrician immediately.
2 :
A child is supposed to see a pediatrician the moment he/she is born. WHat about when the child was a baby? Did the child have all his/her shots? Sounds like neglect to me!
3 :
call child protective services, any mom should know that a child should be seen by a pediatrition at least one a year. Especially if the child is sick a lot.
4 :
Sure it is ideal for everyone to have a regular doc... but maybe she has financial/insurance issues which prevent her from being able to do so. If you're asking a message board, I suspect you don't know her whole situation. Do NOT call protective services like previous post suggested, they often do more harm than good. If anything, gently let her know you are concerned for the child and ask if there is something you can do to help. As for vaccinations there is much debate as to how effective they really are versus the risk of side effects. There are good arguments on both sides and you should never assume any government mandate is good or true until you do your own research. What some see as neglect, others see as an act of conscience.

What is more just: rationing health care based upon bureaucratic decisions or ability to pay

What is more just: rationing health care based upon bureaucratic decisions or ability to pay?
Both socialzed and free market health care ration health care. In socialized health care, care is rationed based upon bureaucratic decisions. In "free market" health care, care is rationed based upon the ability of the person to pay. Which is more just? Which is more just for a child?

1 :
Ability to pay especially since if push comes to shove and you get rushed to the ER you will get taken care of but the bureaucrat won't give a darn about it- you're just a number
2 :
Depends on the perspective. The "socialized" (please use in quotation marks) perspective is that users of health care are the community as a whole; thus, 'just' is defined as minimizing the losing individuals. "Free market's" views are that the users are individuals or groups of individuals; thus, 'just' is defined as maximizing the number of individuals 'satisfied.' From both common political and ethical perspective, a child is often unable to contribute to the discussion of 'individuals to be lost' in "socialized health care" or 'user satisfaction' in the "free market." Given the assumptions that pediatric care is satisfactory for most children, "socialized health care" is more just because the intrinsic cost-of-life-saved would then be higher even though some children would fall through the cracks. HOWEVER, given the assumption above and also that the income difference between the richest and poorest people is minimal, the "free market" is more just because parents can decide what is most 'satisfactory' without too much undue financial burden.

Considering Masters in Nursing or Masters in Public Health

Considering Masters in Nursing or Masters in Public Health?
I can't believe I'm considering my next degree, I feel like I've been in school forever. I am a fairly new nurse, my interest is maternal child health, ob/gyn surgeries, babies, possibly NICU, L&D. I picture myself helping women and children, would love to work in a clinic setting also, really enjoy teenagers, std clinics, planned parenthood, WIC, that sort of thing. I had considered the CNM (Nurse Midwife) but lately was pondering just the Masters in Nursing (MSN) or even Masters in Public Health (MPH). Given what I've said about my interests, does anyone in the medical field have any recommendations for me? Not sure which way to go, or which degree goes the farthest.? Edited to add: Also have my Certified Lactation Educator (CLE) to augment my current job as a postpartum nurse and would like to be a Lactation Consultant (IBCLC) as well when I've gotten enough hours and taken the test, so that's definitely an interest as well. Also - not really interest in being one of the "chiefs" at the hospital. Enjoy working odd hours and three days a week, not thrilled about the traditional 9-5 job. Nursing instructor (esp clinicals in OB) is a possibility but I hear the pay isn't very good.

I have a BS in Biochem, an MBA and an MHA (Masters in Health Administration) and I have taken several public health courses. Given your interests, I would definitely go for the MSN over the MPH. An MPH deals more with health policy and research, and less with clinical aspects of healthcare. Hope that helps!
2 :
Become a lactation consultant to promote breastfeeding. My wife works for WIC as their Breastfeeding Coordinator and deals quite a bit with lots of women that need support in breastfeeding. Med and nursing schools don't discuss breastfeeding too much and unfortunately don't promote it as much as they should.
3 :
A masters in Nursing will only help you if you want to be a nursing instructor. There is no reason to get it other than that. I used to be an admissions counselor for the University of Phoenix's nursing program. You should get at least 3-5 years of work experience as an RN before you even consider your MSN. It will not help you at all until then. You could complete an online MSN while you work as an RN if you are able to do this much work. A masters in Public Health might allow you to work in hospital administation, but you will need 5-7 years of work experience before you will be able to get that job.
4 :
You might also look into schools with a dual degree MSN/MPH. It is a great combination and in some schools, such as Emory University, many of the courses you take in one program can count as electives in the other. This allows you to complete the joint degree in a shorter period of time. It's a versatile combination that will allow you much flexibility in the future. Good luck to you!
5 :
I like The Professor's answer. Getting a dual degree would be a pretty sweet deal. But if you *must* choose between the MSN and the MPH, well, I'm biased. I have a MPH, and I like it. Public health is not all about health care admin or policy. We have a lot of nurses where at my office who have MPH degrees and work as supervisors. On the health care end of it, the BSN, MPH folks do a lot of epidemiology and disease surveillance. At many hospitals, either a nurse practitioner or RN MPH works as the infection control practitioner. I don't know what more you can do with a MSN besides earn a little more pay or teach. But I know with a MPH, you can have access to a lot of other kinds of nursing work.
